ETA 4/12: So, I guess it wasn't completely done, lol. The empty space was just begging for a text box and a tidbit of story. I'm thinking of expanding upon this and turning it into an actual thing, rather than just a one-shot.
Since college, I've always been interested in writing and illustrating for children--but I've never had the confidence or means to even start. The other day, however, I happened upon [link] by and through that, the club she belongs to, (who I hope--though I am very new at this--will allow me to join up ). I found their April challenge (ride on a balloon) just the sort of push I needed to get myself in gear.
This is Jezebel and one day, she will be my daughter. She's been alive in my mind for so long--this smiling, spry little creature--that I knew it was just a matter of time before she appeared in my artwork. I hope to be seeing a lot more of her as I continue along. I have a feeling she will refuse to be ignored when flights of balloons and fancy are the order of the day.
This is so adorable, and so well done! Great use of texture and lovely execution, you did a good job getting Jezebel out of your head and into your art

What happens to the hole when the cheese is gone?
Thanks very much. Actually, yours and `loish's use of texture in your work is what's got me really starting to use them more in all sorts of different ways. So kudos right back at ya!
Thank you very much I'm very glad that people actually like it and it's not a big ol' flop. I was worried that it might get too busy with so many textures going on.
Thanks so much! I'm hoping to actually turn this into a real digital storybook, rather than just a piece. And you can be sure I'll raid your stock for more textures
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
The Cutting Edge is a weekly article that features brand new selected high quality art products that caught our eyes. Check out the cutting edge prints some of your fellow artists have submitted in the past week!
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
